Second candidate for Governor General post submits nomination

FORMER Member of Parliament (MP) and Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Papua New Guinea, Stephen Polonhou Pokawin is the second candidate to hand in his nomination for the position of Governor-General of Papua New Guinea to the Clerk of Parliament Kala Aufa at Parliament House this afternoon.


Mr Aufa officially received Mr Pokawin’s nomination and says more nomination forms are expected to be handed in the coming days with two female contenders also expressing interest in the post.
Fifteen (15) sitting MPs signed Mr Pokawin’s nomination form to qualify him as a candidate to contest the post as one of the requirements.

Meanwhile, the first nomination was the incumbent GG, His Excellency Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae who returned his form last week.
Nomination closes next week on Tuesday 20th of December, 2022 at 4:06 pm.

The election of the GG post will be one of the first agendas when Parliament sits for the first time in the New Year on Tuesday January 10th, 2023.
