What is your MP doing? SMS Text Query

Information about Members of Parliament and their work is very important for people when choosing leaders. Having an accessible parliament promotes transparency, accountability and the best parliamentary practices. TIPNG and the Office of the Speaker of the PNG National Parliament welcome you to use our SMS text message service.

How does the SMS text work?

  1. Select send SMS Message on your phone
  2. Enter 70000300
  3. Enter the first name and family name of your MP. e.g. John Loko OR
  4. Enter the name of your open electorate /district e.g. Ulla Monoburi.
  5. Wait a few seconds and a text will come back..

If you spell the name wrongly you will get a message back saying “No record found try another spelling.”

Can I find out more about my MP?

Yes! Please do! If you want to know more:

  1. Select send SMS Message on your phone
  2. Enter 70000300
  3. Enter the first name and family name of the MP and then a question mark.
  4. e.g. John Loko? O. OR
  5. Enter the name of your open electorate /district e.g. Ulla Monoburi?
  6. You will get a message back saying thank you for your request. Our staff will see the message and call you back on a different number to find out what information you want to know.

Can I call and ask questions?

Not on this number as it is a computer not a phone!

Nothing came back. Why?

Although it does not matter if you have capitals or not you must spell the names correctly and only put a sin-gle space between the words. If you don’t spell it cor-rectly the computer will record the error.

Is it Free?

You pay the usual cost for the text you send…. We pay for what comes back!

Why not more information via SMS?

Telephone companies do not allow for SMS text messages to be longer than 160 characters including spaces
